THINGS TO DO

SEE & DO

Wine Trails

Litchfield County has many beautiful Vineyards with great undiscovered wines. The town of Litchfield has the oldest in the state of Connecticut. Check out CTWine.com and map out your trip.  If wine isn't your thing, walk across the street to The Litchfield Distillery for a tasting of some local favorite spirits.

Contact us for help with local livery services to enjoy responsibly.

History, Culture, and Spirituality

Tapping Reeve House and Litchfield Law School is the first and oldest Law school in the country. Visit LitchfieldHistoricalSociety.org for scheduled events and tours on site and at The Litchfield History Museum. Take a short drive over to Washington (our second favorite town), to the Washington Arts Association for exhibitions and special events. If you are feeling spiritual, plan a visit to Our Lady of Lourdes' Shrine, St. Michael's Parish, or October Garden's Yoga and Meditation Center.  We always recommend visiting LitchfieldMagazine.com for all the latest comings and goings in the area.

Farms and fresh local produce

Litchfield and the neighboring towns have many farms and farm stands carrying the freshest organic produce around.  Some favorites include the farmers market at the Litchfield Community Center, Arethusa Farm, Bunnel Farm, March Farms for picking, and our very favorite, Thorncrest for the very best chocolate and up-close cow encounters!

Outdoor Activities

Whether you are an expert hiker, a trail runner, or an avid biker, Litchfield has some of the best forest adventures in all of New England.  Many of these trails can be accessed directly from The Red House by walking across the street to the most popular destination in Litchfield; White Memorial Conservation. This is also a go-to for Kayaking, trail running, lake access, birding, and even camping.  It is simply breathtaking in all seasons. Topsmead is our favorite walk at sunset, and Steep Rock in Washington offers varying skill levels with a refreshing mist off the river.  If horseback riding is your thing, Lee's Riding Stable offers lessons and trail rides.  If you're a golfer, Stonybrook is calling.

Self-Care in the Country

Litchfield county boasts some of the most sought after relaxation destinations in the country.  The Mayflower, Winvian Farm, and Litchfield Spa are a few of our favorites depending on your level of splurge.  Charym Yoga, The Evolving Center, and October Garden's are great options for Yogis.

Eats

If you are lucky enough to get a reservation at Arethusa Al Tavalo, you are in for a treat.  (A month or so in advance mid week may be your best bet.) Community Table, Mayflower Inn for brunch, and on the patio at The Owl (kid AND dog friendly!) are always excellent choices. Many other cafe's are easy to pop in for a treat.  Arethusa Ice Cream is a state-wide award winner, Espresso 59 for sweets, and Bantam Bread Company for some of the best bread you'll ever have.
